Welcome to Kaimuki
Tucked behind the Diamond Head crater, think of Kaimuki as a little village within the city of Honolulu. What Is Special About Kaimuki? Waialae Avenue is the heart of the hood and it’s lined with independent shops, cafes, and boutiques, which gives it the feel that’s one part a midcentury Main Street and one part eclectic.
One thing that is special about Kaimuki is that if you live there, you can actually walk to the village! The walking aspect of Kaimuki is something that is cherished by many that live in the neighborhood. There in town are tennis/pickle ball and basketball courts, a nice park with a keiki playground. These are being utilized on a daily basis by the locals here. Then just around the corner and up Harding Street is the Kaimuki Library where many spend their afternoons during the hotter summer months. Up the street is the Spanish Style firehouse that was built in 1924. It is still in great shape and is a functioning firehouse. Just behind the firehouse is an upper-level park where you can picnic and have a great view of Waikiki, Saint Louis Heights, Palolo Valley, Maunalani Heights, Waialae Nui, Kahala, Koko Head and of course,
Diamond Head.
Just down Oceanview Dr. is KCC (Kapiolani Community College). There is a wonderful farmers market there every Saturday morning from 7:30am to 11am. Great place for some local music and many different snacks and/or meals for the morning plus many stalls with produce that is fresh and varied. You can walk from Waialae Ave in Kaimuki to KCC in about 15 minutes. Then when you walk make note of the abundant mango, avocado, starfruit, ulu (breadfruit), orange and lemon trees. When in season and if in just the right position, overhanging a public sidewalk, you may pick a fruit or two. Best is to always ask the owner if ok though.
Then going along Waialae Ave, there are all sorts of shops and restaurants. The best way to find them all is to go to www.kaimukihawaii.com. It can also be translated into many other languages. There you will have access to all the shops, restaurants, entertainment, and history of Kaimuki.
Seiko has helped several clients to locate in Kaimuki and they love it there. If you need to know more, please contact Seiko Ono, and she will be pleased to give you a tour of the neighborhood and available homes.
